Tami Penner, Chair

Profession: Attorney specializing in employment law and disability accessibility.
LJCC Involvement: Tami is very involved in our Children’s Ministry (where she teaches Sunday School on a regular basis), serves on the Board of our preschool, and is active in our Women’s Ministry.

Jeff Johnson

Spouse's name: Claudia
Profession: Jeff works for Capella Development.
LJCC Involvement: Jeff has been active in a weekly men's Bible study and regularly helps build homes for the hard-working poor in Tijuana. He and his wife Claudia have participated in micro-credit outreach programs and are active in sponsoring children through World Vision. They have visited Malawi and have seen the power of our outreach there.

Barb Garber

Following a career in retail management as buyer and general store manager, Barb worked as volunteer and on staff in several churches in the areas of administration, youth, and caring ministries. She currently works as Executive Assistant to the Sr. VP of Shell Energy. Barb served on Young Life Committee and in leadership with Community Bible Study. Barb and Mike have been married 40 years and served on the LJCC launch team. Barb had the honor of being the first official employee of LJCC before moving temporarily to the Northwest. She is currently in a LJCC Life Group. Barb and Mike have two grown children and two young grandsons.

John Killmer

Spouse's name: Laura
Profession: John is a long-time Sempra Energy employee and currently serves as a business advisor in electric operations.
LJCC Involvement: John is active in the chancel choir and various external ministry activities. He and his wife Laura have been married 28 years and have a grown son, Ben. John enjoys swimming, biking, movie club and playing the saxophone!

Suzanne Baumann

Suzanne worked as an escrow officer prior to the demands of being a full-time mother, wife and advocate/assistant for her disabled son. She is a founding member of LJCC, has served on the original Caring Ministry team, assisted with Homeless and Youth Ministries, and created the Military Outreach Ministry which she has led for the past five years. Suzanne works with the Navy Wives at the Miramar base and solicits support from local schools and community organizations to assist the military outreach programs. She is also involved with two other local humanitarian organizations that provide emergency relief to the U.S. and countries abroad. Suzanne participates in a weekly Bible study with a small group of women. She is married to Craig, her husband of 26 years, and they have two teen/young adult children.

Bill Engle

Bill’s architectural career of 35 years has led him to the present position as the President of Real Estate for Chatham Capital Corporation, a developer, owner and operator of specialty hospitals. Bill has worked on a number of improvement projects for the La Jolla Community Church including planning of the existing sanctuary, master planning for the future church campus, design and construction of our outdoor patio and trellis area, and the new church sign. Bill attributes his growth in the Lord to the activities he is involved with at La Jolla Community Church including a couples’ life group, men’s group and the True North educational program. Bill has also provided his architectural skills as a volunteer for the design of the La Jolla Presbyterian Church campus expansion and the design of the church and school campus for the Honolulu Calvary Chapel. Bill and Nanci will be celebrating their 22nd anniversary this June.

Mike Price, Vice Chair

Mike is currently the Area Superintendent supporting the Pre-K through 12th grade schools in University City and La Jolla, the latest assignment in a 35-year San Diego City Schools career. He is the Past President of the Administrator’s Association of the San Diego City Schools and has held elected positions of Deacon, Pre-School Board member and Church Chairman in a previous church.  In addition to being a public school teacher and administrator, Mike also worked with teens as a youth pastor, a youth staff member, and with Campus Crusade during college.  Mike has been an adult Bible Study teacher for the past 30 years and together with his wife, Nancy, is involved in an LJCC Life Group.  Mike has been married to Nancy for 36 years, and they have two grown sons.

Michelle BaldwinMichelle Baldwin

Michelle Baldwin is a Tennessee native and has lived in San Diego since 1989. She has been married for 21 years to former LJCC Trustee, Frank Baldwin, and is the mother of two. Her son, Mason, is a Junior at UC Santa Cruz and daughter Maddie is in the graduating class this year from Francis Parker School. While devoting the majority of her time to her family, Michelle has been a leader of Bible Study Fellowship, a core leader for Community Bible Study, served on the board of San Diego's Junior Theatre and was involved as a founding member of LJCC. Michelle took on the leadership of LJCC Women's Ministries when the church was founded, has served as Women's Retreat chair, and is an active life group member.

John CrawfordJohn Crawford 

John and his wife, Bonnie, celebrated 51 years of marriage this year and have been blessed with two children, their spouses, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. John has been a self-employed insurance agent with State Farm Insurance since 1966. John and Bonnie visited La Jolla Community Church for the first time in September 2007 and joined the church soon thereafter having worshiped on the same site many years ago when the church was first built by another congregation.

At LJCC John has served as a groundskeeper and usher. He completed the True North program, and he and Bonnie are active in a Life Group.Over the past fifty years, John has held the elected positions of Deacon, Church Chairman and served on numerous church committees and work projects. He believes that his primary spiritual gifts are service, helping and administration. John attributes the growth in his faith and relationship with the Lord to the principles found in Acts 2:42: developing friendships and fellowshiping with other believers, studying scripture and praying together, and celebrating communion in thanksgiving and remembrance of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for the new life He has given to each believer, to serve others and honor Him.

Kepa FranciscoKepa Francisco

Kepa is currently the IT Trainer and Help Desk Supervisor for the External Affairs Department at UCSD. Prior to his current position, Kepa was involved with an after-school tutoring company that provided basic skills instruction for children who were behind in school. Kepa was a part of the first Y-Malawi mission trip and continues his passion for missions by sponsoring three children through World Vision. Kepa serves as an Usher at LJCC and he and his wife, Cara, are in a life group for young families. Kepa and Cara have been married for over 10 years and have two sons, Isaiah and Malachi.

Kepa feels that it will be a true blessing to serve on the board as a representative of our congregation and feels that his past experience in missions and youth ministries, along with having a young family, will provide a perspective and experience that will help LJCC fulfill its mission.
